Does Anestol Contain Cortisone?
Anestol ointment (cream) is a local anesthetic (numbing only the area where it is used) and an anti-itch medicine. Its active ingredient, lidocaine, causes temporary numbness and loss of sensation in the area where the drug is applied. The drug helps to reduce pain in cases such as superficial skin burns, cracks in the nipple, lip or anus, or hemorrhoids. It is also effective in itching and pain caused by various reasons such as insect bites and poison ivy. Another area of use of Anestol ointment is medical interventional procedures such as tube placement in the trachea, sigmoidoscopy, and cystoscopy. In long-term or high-dose use, it may cause side effects such as skin irritation, redness, swelling or stinging. However, it is generally safe to use in appropriate doses.
